Delta Air Lines has temporarily suspended specialty services for House and Senate members amid the ongoing partial government shutdown now in its second month. Airport escorts, red coat assistance, and other priority handling for lawmakers on official travel have ended, with members now treated according to their individual SkyMiles status like regular customers. The Atlanta-based carrier cited operational strain from widespread airport disruptions as the primary reason. Delta stated that next to safety, its top priority is caring for employees and customers, which has grown increasingly difficult in the current environment. CEO Ed Bastian previously described the situation as inexcusable, noting that frontline TSA agents essential to operations have gone without pay for over a month while being used as political leverage.

The partial shutdown stems from a funding impasse over the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Transportation Security Administration. Approximately 50,000 TSA officers have worked without compensation since mid-February, leading to high absentee rates and extended security lines at major hubs.
