The second vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class has officially entered service, expanding capacity for large-scale family and adventure cruising. Star of the Seas matches its predecessor Icon of the Seas in size and features, establishing a new duo of the world’s largest cruise ships. The ship completed its maiden voyage preparations and welcomed first passengers for Caribbean deployments.
The vessel registers 250,800 gross tons across 20 decks. It carries 5,668 guests at double occupancy supported by 2,350 international crew members. Overall length spans 1,196 feet with a beam of 159 feet for enhanced stability.
Eight distinct neighborhoods structure the onboard layout. Thrill Island houses Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea with six slides including the 46-foot-tall Frightening Bolt. Pressure Drop delivers the industry’s first open free-fall slide. The FlowRider surf simulator and mini-golf course complete adventure offerings.
The AquaDome sits atop the ship with panoramic ocean views. It features cascading waterfalls and robotic arm performances in the AquaTheater. Over 40 dining venues range from complimentary main restaurants to specialty options like the eight-course Empire Supper Club with vintage pairings.
Entertainment spans multiple venues with original productions in the Royal Theater. Absolute Zero ice arena hosts professional skating shows. Family zones include Adventure Ocean for children and Social020 dedicated to teens with gaming and social spaces.
Suite guests access The Grove sundeck with private pool and Mediterranean dining. The Ultimate Family Townhouse accommodates up to 8 across three levels with in-suite slide and karaoke. Hideaway Beach provides adults-only infinity pool suspended eight stories above the ocean.
Initial itineraries operate 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean routes from Port Canaveral, Florida. Ports of call feature Perfect Day at CocoCay with expanded Thrill Waterpark and adults-only Hideaway Beach. Alternate sailings visit Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Cozumel, Mexico.
The ship utilizes dual-fuel engines capable of liquefied natural gas operations. Energy efficiency measures include waste heat recovery and advanced HVAC systems. Shore power compatibility allows zero-emission port stays where infrastructure exists.
Onboard connectivity supports high-speed Starlink internet across all areas. The Royal Caribbean app facilitates digital check-in, activity reservations, and contactless payments. Safety protocols incorporate enhanced air filtration and medical facilities meeting hospital standards.
This launch doubles Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class capacity serving high-demand Florida departures. Advance bookings extend into 2027 with strong occupancy across summer and holiday periods. The design influences future newbuilds prioritizing multi-generational appeal and neighborhood concepts.
Star of the Seas maintains year-round schedules alternating weekly itineraries. Private island enhancements synchronize with ship features for full-day experiences. The vessel solidifies positioning in the premium mega-ship segment against competing operators.
