Canberra travelers will soon access Bali without connecting flights through major Australian hubs. Virgin Australia has introduced nonstop services to the Indonesian destination, marking the airline’s inaugural international route from the nation’s capital. This positions Virgin Australia as the only Australia-based carrier offering overseas flights directly from Canberra Airport.
The route connects Canberra to Denpasar, Bali’s primary international gateway. Flights will operate three return services per week. Operations utilize Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured with Business Class and Economy options. Afternoon departures from Canberra pair with overnight returns from Bali.
The service adds more than 40,000 seats annually to the Bali market. It complements Virgin Australia’s existing Bali flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Passengers from those cities can connect same-day to the Canberra departure. The airline has boosted capacity on its Brisbane-Canberra domestic route using 737 aircraft to support feeder traffic.
Economy Lite return fares begin at $399. Economy Choice returns start at $499. Business Class returns are priced from $1,449. Economy X seating provides extra legroom and priority boarding privileges.
The Boeing 737-800 features full Business Class layout for the international sector. Standard Economy includes seat-back entertainment and meal service on the Bali route. All fares include checked baggage allowances varying by class. The aircraft type allows efficient operations on the approximately five-hour flight sector.
This development expands international options at Canberra Airport. Previously, the airport relied on foreign carriers for limited overseas services. Virgin Australia’s entry establishes consistent year-round access to a major leisure destination. The schedule aligns with peak travel demand periods extending from April to January.
Increased frequency may occur during high-demand seasons. The route enhances tourism links between Australia’s capital region and Indonesia. Bali remains one of the top international destinations for Australian travelers. Direct access reduces overall journey times compared to connecting itineraries.
Bookings for the service are available through Virgin Australia’s website. The airline operates a full-service model on international routes including complimentary meals and baggage. Seat selection is available across all fare types. The new service integrates into Virgin Australia’s broader network serving multiple Bali entry points.
