Overnight rail travel between eastern India’s key hubs enters a modern phase with the rollout of specialized high-comfort sleeper coaches. Passengers on long-distance routes gain options featuring enhanced ergonomics and advanced systems previously limited to day services. This deployment targets improved connectivity across multiple districts in Assam and West Bengal.

The service operates between Howrah in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam. The train consists of 16 coaches including 11 three-tier AC, 4 two-tier AC, and 1 first-class AC. Total passenger capacity reaches approximately 823 berths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi schedules the official flagging off in January 2026. Trials, testing, and certification have concluded successfully. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the launch as a significant milestone for passengers nationwide.

The train achieves a design speed of up to 180 kmph. Berths incorporate improved cushioning and ergonomic ladders. Automatic doors and vestibules facilitate smooth inter-coach movement.

KAVACH anti-collision system equips the train for enhanced safety. Aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems install in electrical cabinets and lavatories. CCTVs cover all coaches with emergency talk-back units for passenger communication.

Disinfectant technology maintains sanitation standards. Driver cabs feature advanced controls. Special provisions accommodate Divyangjan passengers throughout.

Aerodynamic exterior design complements automatic passenger doors. Newly designed bogies with superior suspension reduce noise and improve ride quality.

Trains offer region-specific cuisine. Departures from Guwahati include authentic Assamese dishes. Services originating from Howrah provide traditional Bengali delicacies.

Timetable arranges evening departures from origins with early morning arrivals at destinations. The route benefits districts including Kamrup Metropolitan and Bongaigaon in Assam. West Bengal districts served encompass Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Maldah, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Howrah.

Minister Vaishnaw extended New Year greetings while announcing the service. He highlighted 2026 as a year of major passenger-centric reforms for Indian Railways. The initiative positions overnight journeys at new standards of comfort and security.
