Heathrow Airport is shaking things up with a major retail overhaul aimed at making shopping easier and more enjoyable for travelers. The goal is to create a smoother, more convenient experience while offering high-quality essentials and luxury brands.
This move comes after feedback from over 50,000 passengers who wanted faster and more accessible shopping options. The airport is teaming up with big names like Lagardère Travel Retail and WHSmith to bring this vision to life, setting a new standard for airport retail.
Streamlined Shopping for Busy Travelers
The new plan focuses on making shopping quick and hassle-free. Travelers can now find essentials like books, snacks, and health products all in one place, saving precious time before flights. Lagardère Travel Retail is bringing its globally recognized RELAY brand to Heathrow’s Terminal 2, starting in summer 2026.
These stores will cover 1,360 square meters, offering everything from pharmacy items to souvenirs and food-to-go. The setup includes an upstairs store with a pharmacy and a downstairs area packed with books, toys, and snacks, plus a satellite shop with unique souvenirs. This layout ensures passengers can grab what they need without running around the terminal.
WHSmith Steps Up with Expanded Role
WHSmith, a familiar name at Heathrow, is taking on a bigger role in this retail refresh. The retailer will run travel essentials stores in Terminals 3 and 4 and expand its presence in Terminal 5. They’re introducing a new one-stop-shop format, featuring their own Smith’s Family Kitchen food range, coffee, bakery items, and health and beauty products from major brands.
WHSmith will also add pharmacy services across Terminals 3, 4, and 5, making it easier for travelers to pick up medications or wellness items. This expansion builds on their long-standing presence at the airport, aiming to meet the needs of time-pressed passengers with a wider range of products.
This retail transformation is part of Heathrow’s broader £10 billion plan to modernize the airport, which includes upgrading terminals and boosting capacity by 10 million passengers yearly by 2031. The retail changes are designed to match this forward-thinking approach, ensuring travelers enjoy a seamless and high-quality experience. With these updates, Heathrow is positioning itself as a top global hub, blending convenience with premium offerings to make every journey a little smoother.
