Etihad Airways has launched its first scheduled operations between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Abu Dhabi. The inaugural flight arrived on March 20 using an Airbus A350-1000 widebody. The route marks the first nonstop connection from North Carolina to the Middle East.
The service initially deploys the A350-1000 before transitioning to the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a four-times-weekly schedule. Passengers gain direct access to Etihad’s hub for onward connections across India, Asia and beyond. The flight duration exceeds 14 hours, positioning it among the longest nonstop sectors from Charlotte.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport welcomed the arrival with a traditional water-cannon salute. The addition expands the airport’s international network and supports both passenger and cargo traffic. Business-class cabins feature fully flat beds with direct aisle access while economy offers 327 seats with enhanced legroom and in-flight entertainment including Bluetooth pairing.
The launch proceeded despite regional airspace disruptions tied to broader Middle East tensions. Etihad accelerated the start from an original May target due to demonstrated demand. The route strengthens economic ties between the Carolinas and the UAE while providing travelers with streamlined access to destinations previously requiring connections.
