India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System corridor between Delhi and Meerut advances toward full operations. The Namo Bharat service now covers extended sections with reduced travel times across the National Capital Region. Commuters benefit from higher frequency and modern infrastructure designed for daily intercity movement.

The corridor spans 82 kilometers from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modi Nagar North in Meerut. Trains operate at speeds up to 180 km/h on dedicated elevated and at-grade tracks. Current partial operations connect key stations including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, and Duhai, with remaining segments nearing completion. Full end-to-end service is targeted for later phases in 2026.

Travel duration from Delhi to Meerut drops significantly compared to existing road and rail options. The system uses advanced signaling and automatic train control for precise scheduling. Stations feature platform screen doors, escalators, elevators, and integrated ticketing systems compatible with contactless payments. Daily ridership projections estimate thousands of passengers once all sections open.

The project prioritizes last-mile connectivity through feeder bus services and cycle tracks at major interchanges. Environmental features include energy-efficient rolling stock and noise barriers along residential zones. Construction milestones include the completion of viaducts over major highways and urban areas.

Regional authorities position the RRTS as a model for sustainable urban mobility in densely populated corridors. The corridor aims to reduce road congestion on National Highway 9 while supporting economic integration between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. Commuters report improved reliability and comfort over conventional transport modes. Expansion plans consider additional lines linking other NCR cities in subsequent years.
